The mobile preschool will travel throughout Beaufort County, offering early childhood learning experiences for children and their families.

  • Saturday, January 10, 2026, at the District Office at 2900 Mink Point Boulevard in Beaufort.
  • Saturday, February 21, 2026, at Bluffton High School located at 12 H.E. McCracken Circle in Bluffton.

The South Carolina Department of Education has released the 2024-2025 English Language Arts (ELA) and Mathematics SC READY assessment data for students in grades 3-8. As the state and Beaufort County School District (BCSD) continue the mission to ensure that at least 75% of students are performing at or above grade level by 2030, these results highlight both successes and areas for continued focus.

Superintendent and Deputy Superintendent with the Top 5 finalists for BCSD District Teacher of the Year

The finalists are Allison Gallagher, science teacher H.E. McCracken Middle School; Elizabeth Herring, dance teacher at Bluffton High School; Audrey Kaney, a fifth-grade teacher at Red Cedar Elementary School; Alison Lopes, special education teacher at Hilton Head Island Early Childhood Center; and Amy Turner, a fourth-grade teacher at Coosa Elementary School.

Bradley Tarrance, Principal of Robert Smalls Leadership Academy, has been named the District's 2025-26 Principal of the Year. Geneva Young of Lady’s Island Middle School has been awarded the title of District Assistant Principal of the Year.

Bluffton High School Student, Ava Elizabeth Rios, 2025 National Merit Scholar

Ava Elizabeth Rios is among only 2,500 high school seniors nationwide who will receive a $2,500 National Merit Scholarship for college study. National Merit $2,500 Scholarship winners are the Finalists in each state judged to have the strongest combination of accomplishments, skills, and potential for success in rigorous college studies.

Senior Scholars are students who have been enrolled in a Beaufort County School District high school for a minimum of three consecutive semesters by the second semester of the senior year, and who have maintained a cumulative 3.5 grade-point average or higher, are ranked in the top 10 percent of their graduating classes, and earned the equivalent of an 85 percent grade or higher in college prep courses, an 80 percent grade or higher in honors courses, and a 75 percent grade or higher in advanced placement, international baccalaureate, or dual enrollment courses in all quarters of their high school career.
Dr. Frank Rodriguez named South Carolina Athletic Administrator Association Superintendent of the Year

The South Carolina Athletic Administrators Association (SCAAA) Board selected Beaufort County School District (BCSD) Superintendent Frank Rodriguez, Ph.D. as Superintendent of the Year (5A/4A) for “creating a distinctive school and/or district climate and culture for athletics through leadership, engagement and interaction having a positive influence on interscholastic athletics.  And, for demonstrating a willingness to ‘Go Above and Beyond’ for athletes and athletic programs.”

Students in each 2025-2026 cohort will earn both high school and college credit for completing TCL classes taught by TCL instructors. Dual enrollment classes are free to district students. Uniquely, BCSD Tides students will complete the program as a cohort beginning in ninth grade and can graduate high school with two associate degrees and a technical certificate from TCL.

“This project is made possible from the referendum approved by voters in November of 2023,” said Superintendent Frank Rodriguez. He expressed gratitude for having significant community support in support of students. “This new addition will support expanding CTE programs such as welding, automotive, nursing, and robotics to provide students the tools and skills needed to succeed in the modern workforce."

Moody’s Investors Service has again assigned the Beaufort County School District (BCSD) an Aa1 underlying credit rating, its second-highest possible score. There is not another District in South Carolina with a higher Moody’s rating.

In addition to honoring Stone, the district also recognized River Ridge Academy’s Zoe Greene as the Rookie School Counselor of the Year.
Save the Date for the African American History Education Conference

This 4th annual African American History Education conference promises a robust series of activities and educational sessions for attendees. The three-day immersive experience (Feb. 13-15) includes live music and dance, art, cuisine, and in-depth presentations and panel discussions from local and nationally renowned artists, authors, educators, clergy, living legends, and historians.

A veteran teacher with 37 years of experience has been named Beaufort County’s 2024-2025 District Teacher of the Year. Laura VanHorn, a second-grade teacher at Bluffton Elementary School, was selected and announced during a celebration honoring Teachers of the Year from all the district’s schools on Friday.

We understand that as parents and guardians you are eager to get the school year started, as are we. However, we want to ensure we do so safely. (We have many factors to consider, especially projected high-winds and flooding that can prohibit the safe travel of school buses.)

Dr. Rodriguez will be recognized throughout the year for his accomplishments. Moseley Architects supports this award by providing a scholarship to the winner to be used to assist a student or teacher with professional development or college courses.

Sports Physicals

Spring is here! Which means its time to gear up for sports and conditioning for next school year! According to the SCHL, sports physicals have to be done after April 1st to participate in summer conditioning and sports for the upcoming school year.

Darby Kinsey, Battery Creek High School Class of 2023, was unanimously selected as the inaugural recipient of the Pat Conroy’s Literary Center’s Future Educator Scholarship and awarded the prestigious Center for Educator Recruitment, Retention, and Advancement (CERRA) South Carolina Teaching Fellowship. On Saturday, November 19, 2022, twenty-nine WBECHS Warrior Band musicians participated in the South Carolina State University Marching 101 HS Band Day, along with 1100 other high school and middle school musicians from across the southeast and east coast.
