The mobile preschool will travel throughout Beaufort County, offering early childhood learning experiences for children and their families.

These meetings are designed to provide clarity around how attendance is tracked, what is required by state and district policy, and how families can stay informed and supported. Regular attendance plays a critical role in student learning, and BCSD is committed to partnering with families to ensure students are present, engaged, and successful.

The new 20,000-square-foot facility significantly expands opportunities for students by providing modern, industry-aligned spaces for welding, engineering, advanced technologies, and other career pathways.

Two educators who taught at Whale Branch Middle last year were surprised at a Board of Education meeting, hearing the news that they will be receiving significant state-funded awards recognizing their outstanding teaching that led to measurable student academic growth.

The 113,000-square-foot facility will serve up to 800 students and is scheduled to open for the 2027–2028 school year.

Kelvin Simmons, has been named the Beaufort County School District’s 2025-2026 Support Staff of the Year, an honor announced during the district’s annual Support Staff Celebration Breakfast.

Allison Gallagher, an eighth-grade science teacher at H.E. McCracken Middle School, was selected and announced during a celebration honoring Teachers of the Year from all the district’s schools on Friday.

The South Carolina Department of Education has released the 2024-2025 English Language Arts (ELA) and Mathematics SC READY assessment data for students in grades 3-8. As the state and Beaufort County School District (BCSD) continue the mission to ensure that at least 75% of students are performing at or above grade level by 2030, these results highlight both successes and areas for continued focus.

The finalists are Allison Gallagher, science teacher H.E. McCracken Middle School; Elizabeth Herring, dance teacher at Bluffton High School; Audrey Kaney, a fifth-grade teacher at Red Cedar Elementary School; Alison Lopes, special education teacher at Hilton Head Island Early Childhood Center; and Amy Turner, a fourth-grade teacher at Coosa Elementary School. 

Bradley Tarrance, Principal of Robert Smalls Leadership Academy, has been named the District's 2025-26 Principal of the Year. Geneva Young of Lady’s Island Middle School has been awarded the title of District Assistant Principal of the Year.

This year’s Expo is set for Saturday, July 26, at Battery Creek High School, located at 1 Blue Dolphin Drive in Beaufort.  The event will run from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Dr. Elandee Thompson is the new principal at Battery Creek High School and Freda McCanick is the new principal at Whale Branch Early College High School.

Over 250 pieces were submitted, and 11 awards were presented. BCSD students received ten of these awards for their artwork.

Four veteran administrators have been selected for key Beaufort County School District (BCSD) roles for the upcoming school year.

“The teachers we’re honoring today have been chosen by their peers, which makes their recognitions very special,” said Superintendent Frank Rodriguez.

Ava Elizabeth Rios is among only 2,500 high school seniors nationwide who will receive a $2,500 National Merit Scholarship for college study. National Merit $2,500 Scholarship winners are the Finalists in each state judged to have the strongest combination of accomplishments, skills, and potential for success in rigorous college studies.

The South Carolina Athletic Administrators Association (SCAAA) Board selected Beaufort County School District (BCSD) Superintendent Frank Rodriguez, Ph.D. as Superintendent of the Year (5A/4A) for “creating a distinctive school and/or district climate and culture for athletics through leadership, engagement and interaction having a positive influence on interscholastic athletics.  And, for demonstrating a willingness to ‘Go Above and Beyond’ for athletes and athletic programs.”

The first forum will be held in the Bluffton High School cafeteria at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, April 30. The second will be held in the Beaufort High School small auditorium at 6 p.m. on Thursday, May 1

Upcoming Events

Students in each 2025-2026 cohort will earn both high school and college credit for completing TCL classes taught by TCL instructors. Dual enrollment classes are free to district students. Uniquely, BCSD Tides students will complete the program as a cohort beginning in ninth grade and can graduate high school with two associate degrees and a technical certificate from TCL.

The event will take place from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 8, 2025, at Bluffton High School located at 12 H.E. McCracken Circle in Bluffton. Interested candidates can register online at https://tinyurl.com/8nfjeabt.

“This project is made possible from the referendum approved by voters in November of 2023,” said Superintendent Frank Rodriguez. He expressed gratitude for having significant community support in support of students. “This new addition will support expanding CTE programs such as welding, automotive, nursing, and robotics to provide students the tools and skills needed to succeed in the modern workforce."

Moody’s Investors Service has again assigned the Beaufort County School District (BCSD) an Aa1 underlying credit rating, its second-highest possible score. There is not another District in South Carolina with a higher Moody’s rating.

The first forum will be Bluffton High School at 6 p.m., Wednesday, April 30. The second will be at Beaufort High School at 6 p.m., Thursday, May 1.

This 4^th annual African American History Education conference promises a robust series of activities and educational sessions for attendees. The three-day immersive experience (Feb. 13-15) includes live music and dance, art, cuisine, and in-depth presentations and panel discussions from local and nationally renowned artists, authors, educators, clergy, living legends, and historians.

Parker's Kitchen, a prominent convenience store and food service company, donated $75,000 to Beaufort County schools as part of their ongoing charitable initiative that supports education across their widespread consumer regions.

The comprehensive 4.5 year construction project will replace the majority of Hilton Head Island High School’s older classroom facilities originally built in 1983 with a new three-story classroom wing, alongside an extensive campus-wide renovation.

Spring is here! Which means its time to gear up for sports and conditioning for next school year! According to the SCHL, sports physicals have to be done after April 1st to participate in summer conditioning and sports for the upcoming school year.

BCSD Tides allows qualified BCSD rising ninth grade students to enroll in a full-time dual enrollment cohort at TCL’s New River Campus or Beaufort Mather Campus.

The school will be named May River Elementary School, with a manatee as its mascot. The school colors will be blue, black, and silver/gray.

Lady's Island Elementary, Beaufort and May River high schools welcome new principals.

The Nov. 5 referendum will ask county residents to vote on one question regarding projects in a comprehensive list in facilities needs identified earlier this year by an independent committee of county residents

The 5,710 sq.ft. facility houses locker rooms for athletes, a referee locker room, and a training room.

The SC-SIC Riley Award for SIC Excellence is named in honor of former SC Governor and U.S. Education Secretary Richard Riley and his late wife, Tunky, and recognizes the couple’s longstanding commitment to quality public education.

On Saturday, November 19, 2022, twenty-nine WBECHS Warrior Band musicians participated in the South Carolina State University Marching 101 HS Band Day, along with 1100 other high school and middle school musicians from across the southeast and east coast.

Students participated in a Science Fair to show their scientific knowledge. 

JROTC Warriors honored veterans and the 247th Marine Corps birthday!

Warriors joined the celebration at the 38th Annual Heritage Parade on St. Helena Island!!!!

The grant project will expand USCB’s recruitment, preparation, and support of highly qualified, diverse teacher candidates for 21 high-need schools in the Beaufort County School District.

The GenCyber grant enables BCSD to expand its offering of high-quality computer science and cybersecurity educational experiences to students.

Grants totaling over $29,000 were awarded to teachers and schools for innovative learning opportunities and projects that go beyond the regular school district budget.

An initial meeting for committee members will be held on November 17, 2022.

The South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control (DHEC) is strongly encouraging schools across the state to utilize the Test to Stay (TTS) program to better ensure that healthy students can continue in-person learning.

The prestigious Scholastic Art & Writing Awards describes itself as the nation’s longest-running recognition program for creative teens and the largest source of scholarships for young artists and writers.

Med-Tech 7 is focused on seven schools in the Beaufort and Whale Branch clusters, each of which will implement evidence-based whole school arts integrated programming through Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM) curricula.
