The program was facilitated for the 2nd year by Mrs. Amy Bassett, a retired Beaufort teacher. This year's winners are Rae'gene Blair (1st place), Sha'Kaila Stewart (2nd place and last year's 1st place winner) and Teyaunna Pryor (3rd place). 

Poetry Out Loud encourages students to learn about great poetry through memorization and recitation. This program helps students master public speaking skills, build self-confidence, and learn about literary history and contemporary life.

Since 2005, Poetry Out Loud has grown to reach more than 3 million students and 50,000 teachers from 10,000 schools in every state, Washington, DC, the US Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico.

The winner will advance to a regional and/or state competition, and ultimately to the National Finals. Awards and placements are determined solely by the judges’ scores based on the Poetry Out Loud Evaluation Criteria.
