Hello, My Name Is...
Matthew Plantinga
Greetings from the Science Department at Whale Branch Early College High School. My name is Matthew Plantinga, and this is my eighth year at the school. I teach Biology and Anatomy & Physiology classes as part of the Early College Program at Whale Branch, as well as college-prep Anatomy & Physiology for high school upperclassmen. Our class pet, a red-eared slider named Ms. Chompers, is a favorite of students and staff alike.
Before I became a teacher, I worked as a research scientist, most recently as part of the Anderson Cancer Institue at Memorial University Medical Center in Savannah, GA. I have a Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology from Calvin University (Grand Rapids, MI) and a Ph.D. in Biochemistry from the University of Chicago. I am excited to continue using my knowledge and experience, along with the many talented teachers at Whale Branch, to help the students of this community achieve their dreams.
