Matthew Plantinga

Hello, My Name Is...

Matthew Plantinga

Greetings from the Science Department at Whale Branch Early College High School. My name is Matthew Plantinga, and this is my fifth year at the school. I teach Biology and Anatomy & Physiology classes as part of the Early College Program at Whale Branch, as well as college-prep Anatomy & Physiology for high school upperclassmen. Our class pet, a red-eared slider named Ms. Chompers, is a favorite of students and staff alike.

Before I became a teacher, I worked as a research scientist, most recently as part of the Anderson Cancer Institue at Memorial University Medical Center in Savannah, GA. I have a Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology from Calvin College (Grand Rapids, MI) and a Ph.D. in Biochemistry from the University of Chicago. I am excited to continue using my knowledge and experience, along with the many talented teachers at Whale Branch, to help the students of this community achieve their dreams.
