       Sergeant Major Dwayne W. Farr was born in Detroit, Michigan and graduated in 1985 from Cass Tech High School in Detroit.  He is the fourth child born of seven children in his family.  His dad raised five children as a single parent.  In order to stay out of trouble and avoid the drug and gang surrounded neighborhoods of Detroit; Dwayne  developed a strong interest in the military and joined the Detroit Young Marines program.  During his high school years Dwayne participated with the Army JROTC program and attained the rank of Cadet Colonel serving as the Cadet Executive Officer in his senior year of high school.  He enlisted in the Marine Corps during his senior year of high school and shortly after graduation reported to Marine Corps Recruit Depot, San Diego.  His early years were spent in  Okinawa Japan, Camp Lejeune, NC and Kaneohe Bay Hawaii assigned to the Supply Sections where he attained the rank of Corporal while serving as Supply Clerk, Supply Chief, and later as the Acting Supply Officer. 
      He began his Marine Corps leadership tours with
 1st Marine Aircraft Wing, Marine Corps Air Station Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii and was deployed in support of Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm.  He was meritoriously promoted to the rank of Sergeant and selected to be a Drill Instructor, Senior Drill Instructor and Assistant Platoon Commander at Marine Corps Recruit Depot (MCRD) San Diego.  As a Staff Sergeant he served in the 4th Marine Aircraft Wing, Inspector-Instructor Staff in Mt. Clemens, Michigan as Training Chief, and Company Gunnery Sergeant.  He later transferred to Camp Pendleton to serve with 1st Surveillance Reconnaissance Intel Group.  When he was promoted to the rank Gunnery Sergeant he was selected for duty as Leadership Instructor with the Staff  Academy School.  Later Gunnery Sergeant Farr transferred to the 4th Marine Division to serve with 4th Reconnaissance Battalion, Delta Company in Albuquerque, NM as the Staff Independent & Instructor First Sergeant.
     
First Sergeant Farr was transferred to 1st Marine Division, for duty with the Fighting 5th Marine Regiment as the Weapons Company First Sergeant in the 1st Battalion of 5th Marines.  His battalion was deployed to Okinawa Japan attached with 3rd Marine Division.   Upon return to 1st Marine Division his unit was deployed to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom II.   During this tour his battalion saw combat action in Al Karmah and conducted combat operations during the Battle of Fallujah.  1st Battalion, 5th Marines returned to Iraq in support for two additional tours of duty with the 2nd Marine Division in Iraq and conducted combat operations in the city streets of Ar Ramahdi.  Upon return in 2005 he was selected to his present rank and appointed as the Sergeant Major of Recruiting StationSan Diego.   Sergeant Major Farr completed his recruiting tour and transferred to the 2nd Marine Air Craft Wing, MCAS Beaufort SC.   After completing his aviation command tour he transferred to MCRD Parris Island to assume the duties as the Headquarters Sergeant Major.  In 2012 Sergeant Major Farr retired from active duty to join the Warrior Staff of Whale Branch Early College as the Marine Corps JROTC Instructor. 

     Sergeant Major Farr is married to his wife the former Roxanne Padilla (USMC 1986-1990); they have two sons.  His education includes Marine (NCO) Non-Commissioned Officers School, Drill Instructor School, Staff NCO Leadership Academy, Military Platform Instructors School, Advance Staff Leadership Academy, Army Airborne School, First Sergeants Leadership Academy and he holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Management.
