Warrior Nation Virtual Forum on the Covid-19 Vaccine-

We at Whale Branch Early College High School held a Virtual Warrior Nation Forum on the Covid-19 Vaccine for parents and students on Wednesday, June 9th from 2:45-3:45pm. The forum was sponsored by Whale Branch HOSA and consisted of a panel with 4 local medical professionals. Members of the panel included Jissie Simmons, Celine Disalvo, Josh Ferguson, and Dr. Faith Polkey. Jissie Simmons is the school nurse for Whale Branch Early College High School for the last 3 years and has worked as an Licensed Practical Nurse here in the Lowcountry for more than 20 years. Celine Disalvo is a teacher of Health Science at WBECHS and is a Registered Nurse with 35+ years of experience. Josh Ferguson has been at WBECHS for the last 4 years as the Sports Medicine teacher and has over 15 years of experience as a local Certified Athletic Trainer in the school district. Dr. Faith Polkey has been a pediatrician with Beaufort-Jasper-Hampton Comprehensive Health Services since 2002 and currently serves as the Chief Clinical Officer. She is also the Regional Director of Medical Education for AT Still University School of Osteopathic Medicine in Arizona, whose South Carolina campus is imbedded within the health center. We began with an overview of the vaccine creation process and what makes the Covid-19 Vaccine different, along with general information about the vaccine. There was a Q & A section for parents or students who asked questions of the panel to clear various misconceptions about the Covid-19 Vaccine. The goal was to give parents and students all the information we can to help them make their own private decision about the vaccine.
